WVU Senior Steve Accardi who has been going to the Superette and the Rusted Musket for four years now, says he stays loyal to them, but can only help for so long. There is a growing likelihood that within the next few years both of these Morgantown classics will be long gone and replaced by more big businesses and the thing is, after the last people graduate that were here when these places were, it will be like they were never here. They are also just down the road from the new Sheetz and can’t compete with a big business due to their small clientele. The Rusted Musket, which has been a late night hot-spot for students to get food for years, is in the same position as the Superette. With the new Sheetz just down the road, it appears to be only a matter of time before the Superette is the next old-time place to fall. Unfortunately for them, they are a small business that relies on their small and loyal customer base to keep running. The Sunnyside Superette, a small convenience store in the downtown campus, has been the prime place for students to get some quick groceries (and alcohol) since 1964. While this is all well and good, two Morgantown staples, that happen to be just down the same road as the new Sheetz, are seeing less business since its opening. The new Sheetz at University Place Image courtesy of The fact that they take Mountie Bounty for made-to-order food and groceries is a huge factor, because students can have their parents put money on their Mountie Bounty accounts rather then have to use their own credit cards or cash. Many of the projects have been great for Morgantown, adding amazing new housing for students such as University Place, but some projects appear to be pushing out some of Morgantown’s classic spots.Īt the bottom of the new University Place, there is a brand new Sheetz that, since it’s opening in early March, has seen a flourish of students coming in (especially on the weekends, for obvious reasons) for their endless amount of options. As anyone that’s been going to WVU over the last couple of years knows, this is due to the major construction projects that have been going on throughout WVU’s two campuses. Slowly but surely, Morgantown is looking a lot less like an old-school, run-down campus and a lot more like a new, state-of-the-art campus.
